Caring for bees, and for the people who keep them

We support beekeepers, share knowledge with our communities and protect the pollinators that keep the Maltese islands in bloom.

Who we are

A community of beekeepers and friends of bees

We are a voluntary, non-profit association run by members for members. Some of us have kept bees for decades; others are just starting with their first hive. What brings us together is a love of bees and a wish to see them thrive in Malta and Gozo.

We organise training, help members with advice on bee health, speak in schools and communities, and stand up for local honey and responsible beekeeping.

More about us

Bees in Malta

  • Wild thyme

The garigue's sagħtar gives Maltese honey much of its famous aroma.

  • Carob

Carob trees flower in autumn, an important late source of nectar.

  • Wild bees

Besides honeybees, many solitary bee species pollinate our wildflowers.

  • Hornets

The Oriental hornet is a growing threat to colonies in late summer.
